Isa Bal
Isa began his career in the hospitality industry over twenty years ago as a commis sommelier at The Vineyard at Stockcross near Newbury. Today, he is recognised as one of the world’s leading sommeliers, having won the prestigious title of Best Sommelier of Europe in 2008.
With over twelve years as Head Sommelier for The Fat Duck Group, Isa worked closely with the kitchen team, pioneering innovative ways to pair food and drinks, showcasing highly inventive and exciting combinations.
Isa passed his Master Sommelier exams in 2009 and is a respected member of the international sommeliers community. In 2024 alone, his accolades include receiving the LEGEND Award from Top100Sommeliers, being featured in the Top 50 Sommeliers list by Harpers Wine and Spirits, and being awarded the Wine and Spirit Ambassador Award at the Catey’s for his drive, care, and mentorship in training the new generation of sommeliers at Trivet and beyond.
