Mark Warren
Mark Warren has been producing wines in both Margaret River and the Swan Valley for more than three decades and has been the Happs winemaker for the past 22 years. He is currently responsible for around 60 to 70 individual wines annually as he combines making award-winning wine for Happs with contract winemaking responsibilities for several emerging and established wineries.
Mark is a University of Western Australia trained microbiologist and biochemist with a degree in Wine Science from Charles Sturt University. This strong science background is the foundation of his winemaking approach, but Mark also understands that it’s the passion and art behind the craft that truly elevates wine.
Mark’s strong science background in combination with his belief in the WA wine industry led him to a lecturing role at Curtin University. For 13 years he lectured in Wine Science and Advanced Sensory Evaluation where in addition to learning sound science and technical winemaking his students were exposed to Mark’s passion for wine, his curiosity about the wines of the world, as well as his interest in emerging varietals and alternative winemaking methodologies.
Here at Happs Mark oversees the production of the extensive Happs and Three Hills range of wines. With so many varieties and styles in the portfolio Mark enjoys the opportunity to indulge his passion, creativity and curiosity about all things wine.
When Mark isn’t in the Happs winery he can usually be found either having a glass of wine or on his tractor looking after his own vines. He is indeed fully immersed in the wine industry and the lifestyle it offers.
