Jo Burzynska
Dr Jo Burzynska is a New Zealand-based sound artist, wine writer, and researcher, specialising in multisensory approaches to wine tasting.
As a wine critic, she contributes to publications internationally, is Wine Editor of the New Zealand Herald’s Viva magazine, and author of Wine Class (Random House).
With a background in composition, her sound art has been presented globally—from London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall to Rome’s MAXXI – National Museum of 21st Century Art.
Blending these disciplines, her work increasingly explores and applies the influence of sound on the perception of aroma and flavour. This includes her award-winning PhD and her creation of immersive multisensory experiences, including the establishment of The Auricle, the world’s first wine and sound bar.
She writes about the art and science of matching wine and music on her Oenosthesia Substack, with a book on the subject forthcoming from Routledge in 2026.
